Since November 9, 2000, the Lac Saint-Pierre Biosphere Reserve is an integral part of UNESCO’s world biosphere reserve network. Through this recognition, the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization acknowledges and certifies this vast region as an example of sustainable development. The world biosphere reserve network comprises 391 such sites in 94 different countries. Each biosphere reserve fills three major functions recognized by UNESCO: the first function is one of conservation; the second one pertains to development; and the third one concerns logistic support, i.e., environmental studies. Biosphere Reserve are chosen based on their potential to conciliate biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource development.

saint-ours canal - A canadian national historical site
Let an island and its history win you over! The Saint-Ours Canal is an ideal site for relaxing, picnicking and outdoor activities. The impressive structures of the lock gates, the dam, the Vianney-Legendre fish-pass, and the superintendent’s house with its exhibit showing the canal’s evolution will please history lovers as well as hikers and strollers. The Saint-Ours seasonal tourist information office is found in the Saint-Ours Canal superintendent’s house. The passing through period stretches from May 14 to October 14. Entrance and usage fees are mandatory.

This golf club offers two very differing 18-hole courses. The Richelieu course, stretching over 6,202 yards, is of a conventional style and shaped by Mother Nature, which typifies older courses. The Saint-Laurent course is of the championship type, 6,771 yards long, and provides four different levels of difficulty.
